Dr. Rafae Bhatti is an information security expert and a lawyer who works with cloud-based start-ups in Silicon Valley to help bootstrap their cybersecurity and compliance programs. He is currently the Director of Security and Compliance at Mode Analytics. 

 

Previously in his career, Dr. Bhatti has worked in technical roles at IBM Research and Oracle, and in advisory roles at Accenture and PwC. He was the national thought leadership champion at PwC’s Data Protection and Privacy practice where his work on data privacy culminated in their flagship publication 10 Minutes. He also helped guide the cybersecurity research agenda at Accenture, and was the lead author for Accenture’s Technology Vision on data privacy.

 

Dr. Bhatti frequently writes and speaks about data security and privacy at leading industry forums, including IAPP conferences and blog posts, as well as local chapters of ISACA and BSides. In other roles, he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Computer Engineering at Santa Clara University, where he shares his passion for cybersecurity with the community. 

 

Dr. Bhatti received a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Purdue University, and in his spare time also obtained a J.D. from Santa Clara University. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), and a senior member of the ACM. He is also an inventor on 3 granted US patents. His doctoral work has been cited related to security standards such as RBAC and SAML.
